The most convenient way to travel around Kyoto and the Kansai area is with an IC card. You can use it for city and highway buses, trains, subways, and even for making purchases! At Kyoto JR stations you can buy an Icoca Card at the ticket machine. You use 2000Y and 500Y goes as a deposit on the card, and 1500Y can be used for transportation right away. When you leave Japan and turn in the card, you get your money back except for a 220Y surcharge. You can charge the card anytime for 1000Y, 2000Y, 3000Y, 5000Y, or 10000Y. Being able to ride any mode of transportation and not having to worry about buying a ticket in the correct amount for the correct destination is great! Also, it works in many other places in Japan as well, as long as they have electronic ticket machines at the train stations (some smaller cities may not have this function, so it’s best to ask). 京都、または関西を回る一番便利な方法はICカードを使うことだと思います。市バスと高速バス、電車、地下鉄、買い物をするためにも使えます！京都のJR 駅ではチケットの販売機でICOCAカードを買えます。2000円を入れ、500円がカードを作る保証金として取られ、残りの1500円は交通のために使 えます。帰国する時は駅の窓口で残りのお金をもらいます。（保証金の500円は返却されますが、カードの残高が220円より多いと、払いもどし料として 220円が引かれます）。いつでも1000円、2000円、3000円、5000円、10000円をチャージできます。いつでもどこへでも正確な金額の切 符を買わずに どんな交通手段でも乗れることは大変便利です。日本全国のほとんどで使えますが、小さい町では不可能な場合もありますので念のために聞いたほうがいいと思 います。京都を回るのを楽しんでください！
